Dr. Thornton is a native of Kentucky and attended medical and graduate school at the University of Louisville. He received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology and authored numerous scientific publications and textbooks.
Dr. Thornton completed an integrated residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Kentucky. During his training, the faculty and staff recognized him as a compassionate and caring physician selecting him as Resident of the Month in 2004.
He has special interest in breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery. He continues research including studies to decrease the pain associated with breast reconstruction and has received regional and national awards for his research and presentations.
Dr. Thornton is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Louisville, Treasurer of the Kentucky Plastic Surgery Education Foundation, a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and is a Clinical Faculty member in Plastic Surgery at the University of Kentucky. Additionally, he has been appointed as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Kentucky Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and is the President-elect for 2010-2011. Dr. Thornton has recently been named an Associate Editor for the prestigious Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
